The Holy Book of the Ishmaelites in the World of Greek Christianity (9th–18th Centuries)

By Postdoc Octavian-Adrian Negoiță, University of Copenhagen

With respondents: prof. dr. Christian Høgel, University of Southern Denmark & dr. Manolis Ulbricht, Freie Universität Berlin

How did Greeks have access to the text of the Qur’an? What were the attitudes towards the Qur’an among the Christian Greek communities along the centuries? How was the Qur’an dealt with and imagined in Byzantium and beyond? These are few questions that will be tackled in this presentation, which seeks to explore the reception and refutation of the Holy Book of the Muslims in Greek sources from the ninth century to the dawn of modernity.
