Professor Elmarsafy came to King's after several years of teaching in the University of York's Department of English and Related Literature. Before that he taught at a number of universities in the USA (University of California, Riverside; Wellesley College; NYU) and has held a number of visiting appointments, most recently at the Université Paris Nord – Paris 13 and the Université Sorbonne Nouvelle – Paris 3. Professor Elmarsafy's research interests focus on the literatures of the Middle East and North Africa (Arabic, English, French) and Literary theory and he has published in a number of areas, including the literature and culture of early modern France, the Enlightenment and modern Arabic literature.
