EuQu Seminar of Work in Progress
12 12+00:00 March 12+00:00 2021 @ 14:00 - 16:00 UTC+0
The next EuQu Seminar of Work in Progress will be on Friday, 12 March, at 14.00 (CET)
Our post-doc. researcher Asaph Ben-Tov will be presenting some preliminary findings for a chapter in the book The Uses of the Qur’an in Early Modern Germany which he is co-authoring with Jan Loop. This chapter focuses on the Tübingen mathematician and orientalist Wilhelm Schickard (1592-1635) and the intellectual and confessional ramifications of his intensive study of the Qur’an. In addition to Schickard himself, the chapter attempts to trace the scholarly engagement with Islam within Schickard’s close circle of friends and collaborators in Tübingen and considers possible links between these pursuits and this particular confessionally unorthodox milieu during the Thirty Years War.
This will be followed by some comments and additional findings by Prof. Jan Loop.
All Welcome!!
